Spotlight on the Malt Room
Following on from our recent blogs about whisky festivals and distilleries, please don’t think we are obsessed with the local “water of life”! We recently took a trip to the Malt Room in central Inverness when some family were visiting us and we can heartily recommend the whole experience, so here we shine the spotlight on another wonderful local business. Only opened last July, the mastermind behind this business is a local young man, Matt Macpherson, whose sister Karen designed the beautiful interior which really does add to the atmosphere and ambience of the bar – you can read the full story of the Malt Room’s inception here.
The Malt Room is not your average pub or bar. It is a small, intimate space which offers a very personal and relaxed tasting experience. Located just off a little alleyway on Church Street leading towards the Victorian Market in the town centre, this is the perfect spot to have a night-cap on your way home from dinner. And don’t worry if whisky is not your “thing” – they also have a great range of local gins and cocktails on offer too. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable and gave very good advice to customers to help them choose something best suited to their taste, even offering a sniff of the bottle when customers were unsure of their choices.
The range of drams on offer could suit any budget, and for those with a really sweet tooth, there were even options for whisky and chocolate pairings on the menu. We sampled the flight of 3 whiskies called “Meet the Locals” and tried a couple of cocktails too, and Heather who was the bartender that night could not have been more helpful. Our party all really enjoyed the evening and felt that The Malt Room truly deserved its time in our spotlight.
From time to time The Malt Room offers exclusive, ticket-only tasting sessions for a select group. Why not like and follow their page on Facebook to keep up-to-date with their specialist evenings or check out the diary of events on their website? We wish all the team at the Malt Room continuing success!
