Local Country Shows
If you’re visiting Scotland during the summer season, why not plan your visit to coincide with a Highland Gathering or Country Show? Highland games are held across the highlands during the summer months, and you can read more about them here, or check out the dates of shows on our events page.
A country show will give more insight into our farming and agricultural communities, provides a great days entertainment, and will give you the chance to get up close and personal with some of the fantastic livestock we have in the Highlands as the farmers will be showing their prize cattle and sheep who will have had a shampoo and blow-dry for the occasion! Country shows also give the local people an opportunity to compete with one another in a range of baking and crafting categories and will give you the opportunity to taste and purchase excellent local produce, and to browse the local handicrafts on sale.
The nearest country shows to Inverness are in Nairn, on the Black Isle, and just down the A9 in Moy and these tend to be in late July, early August, and mid-August respectively. However, as you tour around Scotland there will be many other local country shows for you to visit and enjoy. There is always a parade ring for the livestock shows, but in between these, look out for vintage tractor displays, horse riding competitions, sheep shearing competitions, and a range of other entertainment for all the family.
